Review
National Geographic Kids biography of science genius Albert Einstein is a short 48-page, 8-section primer on the man’s life, written so children can understand his most important contributions to science. The year 1905, considered Einstein’s “miracle year,” Albert Einstein wrote four important scientific papers, which were published in German science journals of the day. These papers were on the subjects of light, atoms, time and space, and matter and energy, the latter resulting in his famous E=mc² equation, which lead to the creation of the atomic bomb. Each paper and its subject simplified so that children will come away with a basic understanding of Albert Einstein’s major contribution to science.
4yearsoldIn addition to Albert Einstein’s papers, children will learn about his education (primarily self-taught); the time in which he lived (toys were handmade by wood craftsmen); some cool and relatively unknown facts about the man (Israel asked him to become their second president); and read some of his famous quotations (“Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new”). Photographs of Einstein and his life fill each page.
inhistimeAnd if you thought this was only going to be a fun, kid-friendly biography of a great man, you are wrong. In addition to a glossary, index, and timeline of Einstein’s life, the author includes a quiz. Yep, kids will learn how much they absorbed and learned of this great man’s life by answering seven multiple-choice questions.
growingupKids will enjoy this thoughtfully prepared biography of Albert Einstein. Sure, it glosses over the man’s life, but at age 6 to 9, kids are not ready for a full-blown primer on physics and mathematical equations. This biography of Einstein terrifically adds to any textbook teachers may choose to use or any research kids conduct on their own about the genius.
whoiseinsteinFor younger children, this biography is an introduction to Albert Einstein and will peak children’s curiosity about the man and the times in which he lived. Nat. Geo. Kids Albert Einstein is a fun, fact-filled, interesting read about one of modern time’s geniuses. Reluctant readers will find this interesting as well thanks to the short sections, interesting photographs and fast ideas and thoughts popped onto each page.
