“Ever wondered what astronauts do with their dirty underwear? Or which astronaut played golf on the moon? If you’re looking for wacky factoids and out-of-this-world trivia, this book has it all! A bright, bold design and hundreds of facts will keep browsers busy for hours.” [publisher]
Space. Each year kids learn about Neil Armstrong, the Milky Way, and all nine eight planets in our solar system. What kids do not learn are facts like these:
- A plane trip to the Sun would take 26 years to reach its destination (no guarantee your luggage won’t go to Mars).
- Venus, compared to the other planets, rotates backwards.
- The rumors are true: NASA wants to send you to Mars by 2030. One-way ticket only.
- Apollo 13 astronauts used cardboard, plastic bags, and duct tape to make a carbon dioxide filter. See, you can make anything, anywhere with duct tape.
- The first to orbit Earth was a dog, not a human. Yes, a dog. Take that, cats!
There are so many wacky, strange, and unbelievable facts in Totally Wacky Facts about Space to keep you entertained for hours. Kids who love science, especially about outer space and NASA will love this book. Printed in full color with various fonts, sometimes jumps off the page. Presented in a small five by seven inch book, Wacky Facts pages burst with color and fonts that sometimes jump off the page.
Totally Wacky Facts about Space is not divided by chapters, but seems to be grouped by into two general subjects: stars, comets, asteroids and the solar system; and space flight and astronauts. The author includes an index to help you find things a little faster. A glossary provides definitions to unusual words. Teachers could use this fun fat-filled book to spice up science lessons or use as writing prompts in a language arts class. If you are a space aficionado, you need Wacky Facts for all the facts that would take you months to collect on your own.
Kids can randomly flip through Wacky Facts and find all sorts of interesting facts. I flipped through just now and found this little nugget (no pun intended):
“If an astronaut pukes in space, it floats in little globs.”
Let’s try again.
“Mars has seasons like Earth, but they last twice as long.”
Trivia buffs and those interested in all things outer space will enjoy this truly crazy book. Totally Wacky Facts about Space will fill your head with all sorts of amazing and real facts about all things outer space in no time flat.
