“After thwarting the dastardly plans of J. P. Rickerton, Tristan Hunt is having trouble keeping his newfound talents a secret. And if undercover spies and a mysterious illness weren’t enough, reports of dying fish and disappearing sponge in the Caribbean call Tristan and his friends back into action. Will the Sea Guardians discover the source of the problem before time runs out? Or will a betrayal from one of their own ensure it’s already too late?” [back cover]

Review
The Shark Rider brings Tristan and friends back to the sea to stop a mysterious source from killing the fish, and with it, its reefs and local tourism. But before his summer can begin, Tristan finds himself in the limelight thanks to saving a blacktip shark from sure death. Summer finally arrives and the Sea Camp campers soon find themselves on another mission. The kids fly off to the British Virgin Islands to talk to the ocean’s creatures, using their special talents. Unknown to everyone, an eccentric billionaire knows about the campers and wants to find the source of their abilities.
sThis second book in the Tristan Hunt and the Sea Guardians series continues to refine the campers’ special ocean skills. Tristan can communicate with sharks and rays. Sam can echolocate with whales and dolphins. All the kids get webbed appendages after drinking the special seawater. Actual Caribbean locations around the B. V. I. become the settings. Prager has obviously been to these islands given the expansive details. Readers will feel the water at their heels as the kids check out all the islands. Along the way, readers will learn some pirate history.
ssSkillfully written, The Shark Rider contains loads of exciting action, fish encounters, and, as the title suggests, riding on sharks bareback. Linking the first two editions is the very, very, awful bad guy J. P. Rickerton, who once again slips away to pester the Sea Camp campers in book three. Stick around after the story ends for the Author’s Note. Prager relates additional interesting history and discerns fact from story fiction. Prager’s knowledge of the ocean is extensive and very interesting. Kids that love the water, critters, and having fun will love The Shark Rider, book #2 in a 5 book series.

Warning: Reading this series will give you a concern for the world, especially the oceans and the its inhabitants.
